Our portfolio focuses on smart-growth and sustainability. We celebrate urban renewal and historic restoration by bringing in new technology and design approaches.
We remodel single-family homes and repurpose commercial buildings, as well as develop new construction and multi-family communities. BuildZig has experience across a wide range of projects – from reimagining a grand, old mansion to designing a brand-new concept from the ground up.
We enjoy the process of building and are passionate about bringing exciting projects from concept to reality – especially where we live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Our flavor of “developer” is not a dirty word. We are creative thinkers, investing in projects that build up the urban core – building “up not out”– and saving buildings that would have otherwise been destroyed.
We design our projects with our environmental footprint in mind. Some projects increase density in urban areas where ecologically we optimize access to existing resources. We build “green” by saving existing materials and incorporating living design to reduce carbon footprint and water-usage. Our projects are beautiful, practical, and efficient. We incorporate sustainable principles with a modern architectural aesthetic. We also reduce impact of new development on the site’s surroundings – examples include an electric car charger and water-recapture system/cistern.
BuildZig takes particular care in bringing old, historic properties back into productive use. We preserve rare, historical materials and combine these elements with modern building techniques and safety standards. The results are innovative and have helped us form connections with various local historic preservation societies.
BuildZig is active in our community and we are passionate about our roots. We are headquartered in Oakland, in the East Bay, in the Bay Area. We hire locally, to keep our local communities vibrant. We provide a positive impact to our own neighborhoods and our city.
